Who Do Men Say That I Am?

6 Apr

Jesus asked his Disciples: “Who do men say that I am?” Why did he ask this? What difference does it make what people believe? The people had all kinds of views. Some said he was a Rabbi, others a good man and a good teacher. Others thought he needed to be crucified.

When Jesus turned this question on his Disciples, Peter got it right: “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God”  Today, just as back then, many people do not know Jesus as their Savior. Millions  follow a fictitious “christ.”   And then there are those who simply do not believe. Where you will spend eternity depends on what you believe about Jesus Christ. This is what God’s word teaches.

Muslims believe Jesus was just a prophet in the same line as Moses and that Muhammad was the last in this long line. Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that Jesus was Michael the archangel, came to earth, then was resurrected into an exalted being. Mormons believe Jesus is their brother, a man, who through obedience and progression is now an exalted god. This has always been the plan of the enemy; to deceive and take as many as he can straight to hell.

Jesus is not our brother. He is our Creator. He is God the Son. Not a god. Not one god among zillions. Not an angel. For the Scriptures says: “But to which of the angels said He (God) at any time, “Sit on my right hand until I make thine enemies a footstool?” (Hebrews 1:13) Chapters 1 and 2 of Hebrews tells us a lot about Jesus. Jesus has a better name then the angels. He created them. He is worshiped. To worship anything other than God is idolatry and a sin. He has authority in the world to come.

How shall we escape, if we neglect or ignore so great a salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard Him? (Heb. 2:3)

If you believe Jesus was merely a good man, or an angel, or your spirit brother and that of satan’s, you have forfeited salvation. For Christ Himself shall say on that Day of Judgement: “Depart from me! I never knew you!”

Who do you say Jesus is?
